Day Seven - Aquaculture, the Share Harvest, Animal Management in Permaculture and a Night Stroll

Another blockbuster of a day!  Is it just me or is the Universe talking when we learn about aquaculture and it pours with rain all day?  I can't wait to build a natural pool - anyone with a property let me know and we can discuss - it just seems such a logical thing to do and it is all the rage amongst the permaculture set.

We were fortunate to have a guest speaker from the area who has created the Spare Harvest community   - SpareHarvest.com.  So inspirational to hear one woman making such a difference in the lives of so many.  Will definitely be signing up when I get home.  She also linked permaculture principles to people - just my cup of tea.  We then heard about animal management and how it is possible to regenerate large tracts of farmland by having permaculture strategies to manage the animals and the land.  Our lecturer has run free range pigs with great results.  Another person making a difference - this reminds me of the STARFish principles we used at BlueCross - we may not be able to change the world but we can each make a difference in our own way on a small scale.

At dinner this evening I was quite overwhelmed by the gift that is having three meals a day  prepared for me - I love cooking and food shopping but having this break allows me to focus all my energy on learning and collaborating and is a very powerful lesson in self care and not trying to do everything all the time.

I finished the evening with a stroll around the property with just my torch for company.  The frogs are out in full force and the cane toads dominate the roads.  They don't move and are not bothered by the torch or me.  The clouds parted long enough for me to have a real look at the milky way in the dark.  It surely does provide a perspective on our place in the solar system and is preternaturally beautiful.  And finally the snail.  I thought it was an old sea shell that someone had dropped in the forest but when I went to pick it up out popped the snail.  Not sure who got more of a fright me or the snail.Cane toad

So its off to bed - lights are supposed to be out at 8:30 but as I am in the house I can sit and work in the dark on my little computer with my headlight.  For the avoidance of doubt there are a lot of insects and a single light is incredible as it attracts them all.  I won't mention the proliferation of snakes at this time as I may never leave the house again.

Imagine the milky way (I Know but couldn't help myself)
