If you do nothing else as a consequence of reading this blog please go to a website called The Urban Homestead at urbanhomestead.org. and watch the associated you tube videos - I was blown away and so inspired to search for a more sustainable way of life. https://youtu.be/7IbODJiEM5A
Today we learned about tree and plant communities - our lecturer is a remarkable young woman who is an Environmental Scientist who lives on a property near here and is doing cutting edge research in her own laboratory on all things permaculture. She has become my new hero - her generosity of spirit is quite amazing and she walks the talk in size ten boots. We went on a garden walk and I tasted a Brazilian Tree Cherry - delicious and saw fungi growing as part of a fungi growing exercise.
I saw a snake today - only after it was pointed out to me and it was beautiful and slid away so gracefully. Last night the most delicate green frog was waiting for me at the screen door and then this afternoon after another rain shower a rainbow appeared. We also learned about natural building techniques and there is a cob house/room on the property in which one of the founders of Noosa Forest Retreat lives. There are no glass windows - only screens across the window openings, and it is enough - small and yet spacious enough for a person to live comfortably in this climate. The house was built as part of natural building workshop.
We participated in a heart circle today and learned more about how we all feel about the program we are doing and about what we are loving - I said there were not enough hours in the day to explain just how profoundly I am being affected by the environment I am in and by the people I am surrounded by.
It has been so wet that shoes are becoming obsolete and I am barefoot most of the time - when I went for my evening walk I spotted 2 blue flip - flops abandoned in the mud - just too hard to keep going in them We have also been talking about the phenomenon of flying fish on inland properties and one of our group went home on the rest day and on her property were small fish that had been dropped out of the sky in the recent storms. Strange! Who knew life could be so interesting!
