This head cold just keeps ramping up. Fortunately the ferry queues were much better on a Monday so we took the slow boat - 2 hours - to Bellagio - a quaint town on the shores of Lake Como.
Very warm but a pretty walk up and down the streets proved fruitful when we found a trattoria serving beer and salad - delicious. We then caught the slow ferry back which was all I could manage. We bought. Salad from the supermarket for dinner and had an early night ready for a day of travel on Tuesday.
We had a long day in Como before our train trip to Lugano - tip for travellers - don’t have a whole day before you travel - it is wearing to wait without a room in the heat of a long day!!! Co-ordinate your check out and check in times.
We waked through the Como Catherdral - an unexpected delight - large, cool and beautiful and free. Who knew?
I also managed to finally do a bit of clothes shopping and found a street market with items I could actually afford!!
On to Lugano - a short train ride with a short distance to our hotel - if you took the funicular which starts at the station and ends literally in the middle of our hotel. We however chose to carry our luggage all the way down the million steep steps - watched by amazed locals. The heat was not only in the weather. One day my directions will prevail - just not this day.
All’s well that ends well and after a long cold shower we wandered down to the lake and it is truly beautiful - much crisper than Como but I am also feeling much better so maybe that has coloured my view.
